Privilege escalation

Privilege escalation means moving from lower permissions to higher ones. For example, a normal user gains administrator rights. In practice, a small flaw can become a big problem because higher permissions allow system changes or access to other data.

Why it matters: Attackers often first get limited access and only then try to gain greater control.
